Introducing Reasons to Stay
After more than 20 years in marketing, I’m still fascinated by the gap between what customers say, what they intend to do, and what they actually do.
Someone loves a service but cancels. Someone barely uses a subscription but keeps paying. Someone comes back for a discount, then leaves as soon as the price returns to normal.
Behind each of those decisions is something worth understanding.
That’s why I started Reasons to Stay, my newsletter about customer behavior, lifecycle marketing, and retention.
Experience, explained simply
My career has included leading teams in house and advising businesses on the agency side. I’ve worked through questions about how to help customers get started, keep them engaged, and give them a reason to come back.
This newsletter gives me a place to explore those questions beyond a presentation or a meeting agenda.
Each post will start with a challenge and work through what might be happening, what to ask, and what to try.
If you work in marketing, growth, or customer experience, I hope you’ll find ideas you can apply. If you’re simply curious about why you keep paying for that thing you haven’t opened in three months, you’re welcome too.
A conversation, not just a newsletter
I’m also inviting readers to share challenges they’re working through. Each week, I plan to choose one at random and help think it through, agreeing with the contributor on what can be shared before publishing.
Examples will draw on different points in my career, reader submissions, and hypothetical or combined situations. They shouldn’t be assumed to describe my current role or any particular company. Confidential information and identifying details will stay out.
Bring your curiosity. And, if you have one, a challenge we can work through together.
